Dear All,
As you are probably aware Professor Henry Jackson is away on long service leave until March. On his return he will detail items that came out of the AGM and directions for 2008.
I am Rachael Guy (replacing Andrea Sumner) – during the past month I have been collating and updating membership for the ASPR. Thankyou to all those who confirmed their details with me!

Women’s Mental Health

Melbourne is the host city for the 3rd International Congress on Women’s Mental Health that will be held from 16-20 March 2008.  Building on the success of the two previous Congress' held in Berlin (2000) and Washington (2004), this multidisciplinary Congress is expected to attract in excess of 1000 mental health professionals, researchers, educators, healthcare workers, administrators, policy makers, academics, consumers, carers and field workers from across the globe. Under the sponsorship of the International Association for Women’s Mental Health and other Associates, and hosted by the Alfred Psychiatry Research Centre, we will present an innovative program focusing on the psychosocial, biological and clinical sciences of women’s mental health from individual, family, society, community and global perspectives.  The call for papers is now open. Psychogenic Cardiovascular Disease Conference

A world-first conference on psychoneurocardiology
in prato, tuscany, italy

The Baker Heart Research Institute inaugural “Heart and Mind” conference will be held in the delightful Tuscan town of Prato, Italy, from 3-5 September, 2008. The Baker Heart Research Institute is Australia’s highest profile and most productive cardiovascular research institute.

The conference will have as its centrepoint the link between psychological medicine and cardiovascular disease, delineating the relationship between stress, mental illness, and the development and course of heart disease and hypertension. It will showcase the crucial epidemiology, mediating neural and other mechanisms, and social and psychological measures applicable to prevention and treatment. There will be invited addresses by international leaders in the field. The target audience will be general practitioners, cardiologists, psychiatrists, psychologists, epidemiologists and social scientists.
